DAY 1
TO HAVE AND TO HURT: Advances in Identifying, and Helping to Change, Leave or End Abuse in Relationships This workshop provides a state-of-the-art and solid look at all aspects of domestic and intimate partner violence, presenting the spectrum of (types of) abuse and violence, showing how there may be signs that there is a risk of this violence even before it takes place, explaining how to detect and what to do when detecting this (risk of and or actual) violence, and how all of this is also highly relevant to the addiction treatment field. DAY 2 IDENTIFYING AND TREATING CO-OCCURRING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND OTHER CONDITIONS: Working Through Compounded Complexity, Confusion and Pain This workshop takes a comprehensive and in depth look at what co-occurs with domestic violence, focusing on substance abuse and addiction and explaining how this co-occurring disorder may be missed and or may be mistaken as addiction when it is something else. What addiction treatment professionals need to know to detect oft missed signs of domestic violence is covered in depth, as well as other treatment issues and options. What domestic violence treatment and health professionals need to know about oft missed signs of substance abuse and addiction is also covered. A dialog among fields is encouraged and experienced.
DAY 3 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, PRIMARY CAREGIVER DISPUTES, AND CHILD WELFARE: Addressing Custody Disputes in DV Situations, Child Witness Issues and Long Term Impacts on Children and Their Parents This workshop addresses the painful short and long term effects of domestic violence in divorce and custody situations, and looks at impacts not only on the adults but on the children as well, children whose identities with the violence and or the substance abuse may be muddled in. What do all involved in these processes need to know about the domestic violence and substance abuse/addiction and how do these behaviors frequently overlap?
